FAQs

 

I am having trouble with my eAYSO.org password or getting a Server Error. Passwords can be reset through Steve Morgan at rc@ayso-region14.org. What area does Region 14 serve? Region 14 covers all of Torrance, Redondo Beach and Lawndale. There are other regions that may be of interest, too. You can find out about them by going to our Area website at http://aysoarea-1f.org/links/links_to_regions_v2.htm [back to FAQs]

I have several sibling who want to play, can I get a discount? Yes. 1st child is $90, additional children are $70 up to a max of max $250.  [back to FAQs]

My child and his cousin (etc.) want to sign up. Can we take advantage of the multi-child discount? No. The multi-child discount applies specifically to children of a single family. Not to relatives. [back to FAQs]

My child also plays Club, can he/she play AYSO soccer, too? Yes, but if your child plays less than 3/4 of the games in a season in under 10 through U14 or less than 1/2 of the games in under 16 or under 19, he/she will not be eligible for select play. Please be mindful, that teams depend on their players. If your son or daughter cannot make a significant number of games, you may want to rethink joining AYSO. [back to FAQs]

When does the season begin and when does it end? Our primary season runs from September 10th, until early December. U-5 through U-8 and U-16 through U-19 will finish their season before the Thanksgiving Holiday – the rest of the teams will compete in our Commissioners Cup or Sportsmanship segments that end mid December. Opening Day and Picture Day will be held on September 10th and the U-16 through U-19 divisions will have their first league games that weekend.  [back to FAQs]

Where are the games played? Region 14 games and practices take place at Victor Elementary, Anza Elementary, Jefferson Middle School and (depending on our enrollment) may include Bert Lynn Middle School and Towers Middle School. What kind of payment will you accept? On-line registration will only accept credit cards. If you come to a walk in registration, we will not be accepting credit cards, but checks and cash are fine.  [back to FAQs]

My older child has never played soccer before, can he/she still sign up? Yes. Experience is not a requirement. The teams are set up so that all youths play at least 3/4 of each game (upper division players, U-16  and U-19 play a minimum of 1/2 of each game.) We ask that players who are new to Region 14 or have never played in AYSO soccer to attend an evaluation session.  [back to FAQs]

Can my two children be on the same team? If they are with in the same age bracket, they can play on the same team.  [back to FAQs]

Can my child be with his best friend? Under 5 and under 6 year old teams are formed by school's so you can request that a child be put on a specific team. All other divisions are balanced teams; we do not accept any requests for specific teams.  [back to FAQs]

What do I have to buy for my child to play? The Region provides a jersey, shorts, and socks. Players must provide their own shoes, shin guards and practice ball. There are other requirements that must be observed concerning equipment. Please see Player Equipment Guidelines. [back to FAQs]

 

Can my child play for a particular coach? The Coach's children may play on the teams their parent coaches. To keep the teams balanced, we do not honor other requests for specific coaches or for people to coach together..  [back to FAQs]

My child has a physical or mental challenge, can he/she still play? Region 14 does not offer a program for special needs children; however, our sister region in South Torrance will be able to accommodate your child. Please contact Cathy Howard[back to FAQs]

When are the teams formed? A blind draft takes place in August. We'll announce the date as we get closer to August. [back to FAQs]

I need a specific practice day for my child, can I request it? No. However, your new coach will call a preseason meeting and you may negotiate with him. [back to FAQs]

How many practices does my child have to attend? Coaches determine the practice schedules. Generally there are one to two practices per week for under 10 and older. [back to FAQs]

My child cannot play on Sundays, can he/she still join? Yes. However, we do not modify our game schedule to accommodate teams who have players that cannot play on Sunday. That team will play short.  [back to FAQs]

I want to coach and or referee, do I need experience? No. Region 14 offers training and support to all our volunteers. All volunteers are required to take the Safe Haven Course (one time requirement) and fill in yearly Volunteer forms are required for background checks.  [back to FAQs]

My child is exceptional, can he play up a division? Players may play up one division with the permission of the Regional Commissioner and after verifying by a neutral source that the player’s safety is not compromised. No player may play down a division for any reason. [back to FAQs]

How do I volunteer as a Coach or Referee? Region 14 welcomes parent involvement. If you would like to coach or assistant coach, please note that on your child’s application. If you would like to become a referee please click here. You must have a volunteer form filed before you can be considered as a coach, or any other volunteer. Please go to www.eAYSO.org, fill in the on-line form and print two copies. Sign both copies and include them with a form of identification such as a copy of your driver’s license or ID card must be included for verification. Volunteers are still subject to approval by Region 14 and the National office of AYSO. No applicant is guaranteed a volunteer position until they are notified by the CVPA, RC or their designee. What are Region 14’s cancellation policies? Should you decide that your child will not play in the fall; there is a $15 non-refundable fee per player before the draft day and a $30 non-refundable fee after the draft day per player to process your registration fee refund. NO refunds will be issued after the season begins. [back to FAQs]

I volunteered last year, do I have to fill in the Volunteer Form again?  Yes. A new volunteer form is required each year. There will be no forms...you must register and print out two copies at eAYSO.org. You'll be happy to hear, that in most cases, last year's entry was saved.  [back to FAQs]

I’ve taken Safe Haven, do I need to take it again? No. It is a one time requirement. All new volunteers are required to take this short, informative session as part of AYSO’s Child Protection program.  [back to FAQs]

I'd like to sit in a comfortable chair and just watch my child play... Wouldn't we all? This and all other AYSO regions throughout the United States rely on our parent volunteers to make soccer possible. You can still sit in that comfortable chair and watch your child's game, but please be aware that all parents are expected to help the team and in some cases help the region function. WE HAVE NO PAID STAFF. So be prepared to be a volunteer...because without volunteers there won't be any soccer games. [back to FAQs]
